Not only do they taste divine, but also have amazing properties - while store-bought hummus contains around 2 grams of protein per serving, hemp seed hummus has a whopping amount of 8.3 grams!


The following recipe for this exceptionally tasty and healthy hummus comes from Carina Wolff's book "Plant-Protein Recipes That You'll Love". "Experiment with different hummus toppings by adding sun-dried tomatoes, red peppers or your favourite herbs," Wolff suggests in his book.


Hemp Seeds Hummus


3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon shelled hemp seeds (divided into two portions)

1 can chickpeas, rinsed and drained

1 tablespoon tahini

2 medium garlic cloves, peeled and ground

1 tablespoon lemon juice

5 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons filtered water

1 / 4 teaspoons salt,

1/2 teaspoons dried parsley,

3 fresh basil leaves


In a food processor or blender, grind 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds at high speed for about 10 seconds until a smooth paste is formed. Add chickpeas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, 4 tablespoons olive oil, water and salt. Mix at high speed until smooth, about 10 to 20 seconds.

Transfer to a bowl and pour over the remaining olive oil and sprinkle with the remaining hemp seeds. Garnish with parsley and add the basil. Store hummus in the refrigerator for max. 3 days.
